Maintaining a healthy diet might be the last thing on your mind when you’re travelling, but eating unfamiliar foods, stress, and a go-go-go itinerary can catch up to you fast – leading to things like upset stomach, nausea, motion sickness, and more. Try a few of the tips below to help keep your health on track while abroad.

Pack healthy foods for the trip

No matter how you’re travelling, the following foods are good, portable snacks:

  • Almonds, pistachios, and pretty much any other nuts
  • Dried fruit and nut bars (nuts again!)
  • Granola or low-sugar cereal
  • Apples, bananas or your favourite fresh fruits
  • Remember to stay hydrated! Drinking at least a cup of water every hour while flying helps prevent headaches and digestive issues.

Watch-outs for once you arrive

Here are a few additional food safety precautions you might want to try:

  • Try to eat food that is cooked and served hot. Use caution when eating from street vendors.
  • When eating fruits and vegetables, wash them with a clean water source and peel them yourself.
  • Only drink tap water if you know it’s safe to do so. If you aren’t sure, it’s better to stick to bottled water. You can also boil tap water to disinfect it if needed.

These are just a few ways to keep your diet on track while travelling. Want more healthy travel tips? Check out our travel tips section.
